Recently, the biggest live streaming platform ,Twitch, has been dominated by a new meta. This new meta, which is to watch and react to popular TV shows, has been causing quite the storm. Popular streamers such as xQc, Pokimane, Hasanabi, Disguised Toast and Myth have adopted this new meta, disregarding the risks that come from it.
This meta has grown in popularity for the past couple of months, despite it being around for a couple of years. Trainwrecks was believed to have created this meta when he watched Masterchef a few years ago. However, the meta did not kick off until now.
The most subscribed streamer in Twitch, aka the “King of Twitch”, xQc, started watching reruns of Masterchef, garnering quite the attention and following. This caused a chain reaction, resulting in other streamers such as Hasanabi and Pokimane to also start reacting to Masterchef.

After a month of streaming Masterchef, Gordon Ramsay, one of the judges of Masterchef, was notified of the news and tweeted “Hey @Twitch can I get a lesson on what you are ?? #NextLevelChef”, causing major headlines and hilarious reactions from streamers and viewers alike.
However, that is not the end of the story. One of the most popular streamers, Disguised Toast, took it one step further. Instead of following the others and watching Masterchef, he started to watch Naruto, a popular anime. He was able to finish all of the episodes of Naruto, excluding the fillers. Afterwards, he began to watch Death Note.
Seeing that Disguised Toast was not punished for streaming copyrighted content, many others followed in his path. Myth watched Yugioh while Mizkif and Pokimane watched Avatar: The Last Airbender.

This was when everything took a turn for the worse. Pokimane was filed a DMCA strike, causing her to be banned for two days for watching Avatar whereas Mizkif was left untouched. Hasanabi was filed a DMCA strike for watching Masterchef but it was retracted soon after due to it being a false one.

After so many bans happening, Disguised Toast was finally banned for watching Death Note for two days. He was banned just as he was watching the last episode of the show. On his return stream two days later, he watched his own parody version of the last episode of Death Note, completely misleading everyone who thought that he was going to watch the real episode.
The future of this new meta seems bleak as many others have stopped, although xQc is still intending to watch Masterchef. Will this react meta continue on or will another meta replace it?
